Frequently Asked Questions for the Lower Limb Amputee Rehabilitation Course

End of Course Questions

Where can I get my certificate

We will be providing everyone with the link to the application form for the certificate on Wednesday 22nd July.  You will need to tell us your email address, and other email addresses you have used and your Facebook name.

I have used two email addresses when submitting the final tasks and quizzes to the one i registered with, is this a problem.

No.  We will ask you for the email addresses that you have used on the certificate application form.

The word count in the final assignment is too short I cannot fit my work into it.

The word count has been kept short for two reasons. Firstly, we are trying to encourage you to summarise your work and be succinct, this is a key skill for delivering effective patient summaries in interdisciplinary case meetings. Secondly, we do not have the time to read through thousands of long assignments

Can the final assignment be completed as a group?

No. The final assignment is supposed to be a reflection on your individual learning. Everyone must submit their own unique final assignment.

I didn’t get an email confirmation when I completed the Quiz.

There is no email confirmation for completing the quiz or for completing the competency tool, if you have submitted them then we have them in our records. There is an email confirmation of receipt for the final assignment and the evaluation form.

I have submitted everything that I need to do, can you confirm that you have received it all.

No, I am sorry but we do not have the resources to check through everyones individual submissions. This will all be checked when you submit your application form for your certificate.

During Course Questions

I have just found out about this course, is it still possible to register

I am sorry but registrations were closed at the beginning of week two. Feel free to work through the resources as you wish – I enrolled for the course but I have missed out of the two weeks course work could you please help me out.

I am very sorry but we have now closed the course at the end of week two. It is too late now to catch up with all the discussions in the forum. However feel free to I have registered for the lower limb amputee rehab course but I am unable to access the Facebook group.

We closed the Facebook discussion forum to new members when we closed registrations for the course at the beginning of week two.  If you are registered on the course and have been receiving the course emails we can let you in up until the end of week two but you will need to catch up with week one as soon as possible. Please provide Rachael with your Facebook email address so that she can invite you to the group and also let her know when you have accepted the invite so that she can confirm your membership to the group.

To get late access to the Facebook discussion forum you need to have sent Rachael your Facebook email address by the end of week two, that’s June 14th!

I am not receiving or having trouble opening the course emails

There is no need for you to open the email, you can follow all the course activities from here – I registered for the course before the closing date but I have received any of the course emails

If you registered for the course before the closing date and completed the registration form correctly we will have you on the register.  There are several reasons why you may not be receiving the emails:

  1. The emails are in your spam folder or in the case of Gmail they might be in your All Mail folder. Please check!
  2. You didn’t complete the submission of the registration form
  3. You didn’t provide your email address when asked to on the registration form
  4. You provided an incorrect email address on the registration form

If you have now found the emails please feel free to catch up with the activities from this page – I am receiving the course emails and am a member of the Facebook group, but have not received confirmation that I am registered on the course.

If you have received previous emails then you are registered.

I am registered for the amputee course but my internet connection is so bad that I am having problems keeping up. Is it possible to have an extension or do the course at a later date?

I am afraid that we can’t give extensions for the course but you are welcome to try and catch up!  If you would prefer to work at your own pace feel free to work through the resources as you wish – I am no longer able to complete the course what should I do

This is no problem. We will leave you on the email list so that you can keep updated on what is going on at Physiopedia but if you no longer wish to receive the emails please click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of the emails.

Is the course accredited for CEUs

Yes, the course has been accredited by the WCPT for 24 CEUs.

How can stop getting hundreds of emails of everyone’s postings to the discussion forum.

You will need to change your settings in Facebook.  These may help:

Pre-Course Questions

I’m not sure I’ll be able to complete a case study for the course as I am not currently working with amputees and have no previous experience of working with amputees, can I still take part?

Yes, this is not a problem.  We will be providing some examples for people who aren’t currently working with amputees to use.

I wish to take part in this course but am on holiday/out of the country/out of Internet coverage for 2 of the weeks. Can I still take part in the course?

Yes of course.  However it is important that you take part in all the discussions as a lot of the learning will take place there.  You will also need to complete all the tasks for each week to obtain your certificate of completion.  We recommend that you miss no more than 2 weeks as otherwise it will be difficult for you to catch up.

Is it possible to complete the course in less than 6 weeks or is the content split on a weekly basis?

No, I am sorry but this is not possible as the course content will be released at the beginning of each week.  It is possible for you to complete the course as a self directed learning experience after the course is complete but you will not be entitled to a certificate of completion as you won’t have been able to take part in the discussion forums.

I am not currently practicing as a physiotherapist, is it possible for me to complete this course?

Of course, this is no problem.  (Also see answer to question 1).

I am interested by the course on amputees but I am afraid about the english skills that would slow down the learning process.

The course is mostly compiled of reading and the discussion forum so you can work through the reading at your own pace and contribute to the discussion forums where you feel comfortable. We are expecting people from over 100 countries, there will be many in the same position as you so please don’t worry.  If you find it too difficult there is no requirement to complete the course, you can leave if you are finding it too much.

I am unsure if I am able to commit the time for the dates of this course but am wondering if there will be others later in the year or next year?

We hope to run this course on an annual basis but at this stage cannot guarantee it.  It will also be possible for you to work through the resources at any time on your own after the course is complete.  You won’t however be able to contribute to the discussion forums or collect a certificate of completion.

Is there a specific time that I need to be online?

No.  You can complete the tasks each week in your own time that suits you.  There is no requirement to be online at a specific time.

I don’t have very good internet speed, will that be a problem?

In order to accommodate all internet bandwidth scenarios there are no presentations or webinars that you are required to view. Most of the learning activities are reading related and in the discussion forum.  There are some YouTube videos that it will be helpful if you can watch.

I am trying to register for the course but when I click on your website link to register I get a message saying that I am trying to access a malicious site.

The registration form is created using Google Forms as a low cost option for us. Some systems block Google docs/spreadsheets/forms etc as they have been know to be used for phishing, your organisation could easily be one of these. I can assure you that our registration form is genuine. You could register from another computer at home or alternatively we can manually register you.

Is it possible to sent me a copy of the course after it has ended?

The course will be openly available to view on Physiopedia after the course has ended.  You are welcome to work through the course and use all the resources.  The course is not available in paper format.  Please note that you will not be eligible for a course completion certificate if you work through it yourself at a later date.

I’ve done the interest form in the application program but I have not figured out how I find out that my application was accepted

When you submitted the form the next screen displays a message that says “Thank you for your registration for the Lower Limb Amputee Rehabilitation Course. We have received your application and will get in touch in mid May 2 weeks before the course is ready to run. You will not receive any other email to confirm your place on this course.” We will contact you at the email address that you submitted on the registration form 2 weeks prior to the course start date.

Will any audio lectures/exams/assessment be used as I am deaf and rely on lip reading skills primarily.

You will have no problem completing the course. There are some videos but these are only used for informal interviews with course moderators and case studies (which most have subtitles), both of which are not a required part of the learning.

I see that the discussion forum is in Facebook, I do not have an account and do not wish to have one, is this a problem.

We use a private Facebook group for our discussion forum so that we have a robust system to support a large number of participants. In addition 99.5% of the participants on our courses already have Facebook accounts and are familiar with using this system. This enables us to avoid having to support the creation of accounts and the use of an unfamiliar system, all of which is very important to keep costs down for a course that we are providing for free. The Facebook discussion forum is where much the knowledge exchange takes place on this course as this is where we learn a lot from the experience of our peers. It is no problem if you do not wish to be a part of the discussion forum but you will not receive a course completion certificate and we strongly recommend that you do take part to get the full learning experience. We do not have a problem with you using a ‘fake’ name and/or cancelling your account as soon as the course is over.
